Jesus IS my fan. That makes me a star. And yes you and I are stars. One of my favourite sunday school songs goes:
Jesus You're terrific
that's what I think You are
You took me from the dustbin
and You treat me like a star.
and yet another age-old chorus goes:
when I think about the heavens, the moon and all the stars,
I wonder what You ever saw in me
But You took me and You loved me and You've given me a crown..
my point being...We are stars cos' of:
1) how our Abba Father lavishes His love over us. the KJV still says it best "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God"
2) how He gives us His undivided attention (read again: undivided) and watches over us with such care and detail. Read Psalms 121 and you will be convinced, just by the sheer number of times God repeats how He is watching over us.
~ "He will not let your foot slip, he who watches over you will not slumber (v3)...
~ The LORD watches over you, the LORD is your shade at your right hand (v5)...
~ he will watch over your life(v7)...
~ the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore (v8).
(emphasis mine)
There are of course other reasons why we can view ourselves as stars... His glorious grace etc. But strikes me even more is Jesus is a fan of mine. He supports me wholeheartedly. He's there both when I'm up and down. He sticks to me despite my failures, falls and life's fractures. He truly sees what's inside of me (filth, ugliness, unworthiness etc) and STILL believes in all the possibilities He has for me. When others write me off, Jesus puts me in His dream team.
Think of the athletes or celebrities you support. For me, it's Monica Seles and despite her being away for almost 5 years from the sport due to injury, I must say my hope that she will come back one day has never wavered and I awaited her coming back to the tour with much excitement. Isn't Jesus very much the same? (you can catch a glimpse of that in how the father waited for the prodigal son day after day). Even on my off-days, off-months, off-years (*gasp*), Jesus still keeps the hope and belief that one day I will be who He wants me to be. That is just awesome.
And one of the things which inspires and motivates me most in my walk with God is when I imagine Him cheering me on at heaven's gates, screaming His lungs out maybe "Go Lester go, don't give up" (very much like those fans you see at sporting events). Or maybe like Novak Djokovic's parents and brothers who each wore an alphabet to form his nickname "N-O-L-E", I wonder if Jesus grabbed a few angels and formed my name "L-E-S-T-E-R". Not convinced? Look no further. Romans 8:31 says "So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?" (MSG, emphasis mine) or in the KJV "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Psalms 118:6 says "The LORD is on my side; I will not fear".
So remember you've got a fan in Jesus and He thinks you really rock. Don't ever let anyone say you are a loser or you can never make it, because Jesus thinks you can. and the next time you sing "what a Friend we have in Jesus", remember you've got not just a friend, but a fan in Him.

so that was penned by yours truly. If you read till the end, I truly appreciate it :-)
Have a great week ahead.
Tennis yesterday was really good. I told myself to play my heart out as a tribute to Monica, and I did. I hit devilish angles (some of the best I've ever produced in my life), pounded the ball with all the little might and power I had and attempted to cream the lines, just like vintage Monica. It's great feeling the ball reverberating through your racket. Tennis is just awesome.
