Am I only dreaming.

Dreams have oft been theorised by many such as Carl Jung, Freud and Adler and I find these theories repulsive, reason being, (nightmares aside) dreams can be some of the most beautiful things and any attempt to theorise it or provide concrete explanations to such ethereal, limitless and formless things only serves to ruin and complicate the beauty of dreams.

The sweetest dreams are those which reach deep into one's emotions - again with the exclusion of nightmares (which includes unpleasant ones like breaking up with a partner - that I imagine can be worse than a horror nightmare for some).
The ones which reach into one's emotions are those which you feel almost like you are living it, experiencing it and feeling every moment of it - the exhilaration, the love, the closeness to the subject(s), the emotiveness and so on. You wake up relishing the moment, wishing the dream had never ended (and cursing whatever had woke you up from that dream) and even after months, you still remember the dream vividly and nostalgically.

Ironic it seems, as a dream is something which logically you have not experienced in reality, meaning you have not gone through it in your conscious real life. Yet, the sweetest dreams can evoke powerful emotions that even real-life experiences can't replicate. Perhaps that is why one theorist surmised that dreams are reflections of the unfulfilled desires, shortcomings and lackings in one's "real" life. Whether that is true or not is inconsequential.

For me, sweet dreams are fields of spontaneity where you get to enjoy and live out unfulfilled desires, to take a (much-needed) breather from life's reality, to live out your persona without anyone judging you, to be yourself. The dream belongs to you and you to it. It is your own.

So is what I have written some sort of theorising too? I hope not. Rather, let it be a simple reflection of the beauty of sweet dreams. I await the next one.

The next time you greet someone goodnight, add "sweet dreams". And may it be truly sweet.
