A slicey business

Played tennis at Audrey's place. She's improved pretty much. haha. anyway, after awhile, I decided to play with an elderly man at the other court, cos' Audrey said he's very good. Summoning my courage, i went over thick-skinnedly and asked to hit a few balls with him. He obliged and so we played.

and oh boy, this guy altho' all white-haired and constantly coughing, could hit lovely slices and put tremendous spins into the ball. at first I was intimidated, as it's not often that i play with people who can slice & spin the ball so well, but I learnt how to just calm down, anticipate the ball and hit it back like any other shot. Like when the ball spins into your body (and it did a few times), just quickly move aside and hit it back. And this elderly gentleman could hit deep shots which pinned you behind the baseline. Textbook tennis at its best I would say. anyway, I tried to produce some angles (cos his only probable weakness is he can't run well at that age) and yea, he didn't bother to reach most of those angled shots. oops so evil. after a while, think the old man got sian, and pretended to ask the time, a hint to me he wanted to continue his own practice. so i left.

Sigh, if only I can get to play more often with people like that, cos to improve, you really need as much exposure to all kinds of players.
so guess that sums it up.

have a good week fellas.
